In his address, the Senior General said requirements for the improvement of farming and sports sectors will be fulfilled.
Technological assistance and quality strains will be provided to increase the yield of tea leaves.
Increase in yield and production of value-added tea will generate job opportunities and develop local economy in Shan State that has about 60,000 acres of tea plantations. Agriculture has four requirements, which are, strain, soil, water and technology.
Required inputs must be available for ensuring quality strains, good soul, adequate water supply and technology assistance.
Increase in yield will develop the socio-economy of the local people. Human beings need nutritious food and medicine to be fit, healthy, and free from diseases. Likewise, plants also need nutrition and medicines to produce quality products.
So, traditional methods must be abandoned and modern and systematic farming should be introduced.
To establish such advanced and successful agriculture and livestock breeding industries, competent experts who are wellversed in agriculture and livestock breeding technologies are necessary. As it is learnt that there is only one agriculture and livestock breeding university although ours is a country that relies mainly on agriculture and livestock breeding, measures are being taken to open agriculture and livestock breeding universities from institutes and colleges.
Efforts will be made to open an agriculture and livestock breeding institute or college that will be based in Lashio in Shan State (North). The country has faced shortages of edible oil and fuel oil and has to import them, spending billions of dollars every year. To save fuel oil, it is necessary to take electric trains, buses and subway trains, for example, into consideration. To boost the production of edible oil, efforts must be made to increase the yield of oil crops.
In connection with the reforestation, it is satisfactory to learn that forest coverage has expanded due to successful forest plantations. It is necessary to implement projects to produce high-tech forest products and to take measures to manufacture finished products from timber and bamboo, which are abundant in the region. With respect to rice, it is important to further increase the acreage yield.
In addition to staple rice, it is necessary to increase the yield of sticky rice, which is one of the main crops of the region and to maintain the quality of local varieties. I don’t want to encourage the export of rice and rice mills can be run by locally milling rice and animal feed can be produced from chaff and broken rice while offering job opportunities in the region.
It is unnatural that the region has faced water shortages despite being a region that receives moderate rainfalls. It is necessary to look for water resources and to store andsupply water.
As the main requirement for boosting production and industrial development in the region is electricity, it is vital to take generation of electricity from natural resources into account. Regional authorities are required to give priority to what they can do for regional development and then for national development. Union level authorities are responsible for national development. Selfadministered zones and leading bodies are required to exert as much effort as they can for regional development. In addition to high-tech farms in the region, production of cement and steel, which are needed for construction tasks at present, and fertilizers must be taken into consideration. If enough revenue can be generated in the region and the economy is thriving, development tasks of the region can be carried out and tourism, smokeless industry, can be developed. If a house is pleasant, guests will be willing to visit it. When the number of people who visit the region has increased, more local products can be sold and regional development can be carried out. Therefore, responsible officials at different levels are required to exert efforts for the development of socio-economic, health, education and sports sectors of the region they are responsible for. In conclusion, the Senior General urged all to exert efforts to build a prosperous and food-sufficient country and explain the political development of the country.
After the meeting, the Senior General and party accepted the local souvenirs presented by the chief minister and officials of self-administered division and zones and warmly greeted the participants.
Afterwards, the Senior General and party continued to and inspected Lashio District Stadium and gave necessary instructions on upgrading tasks.
Then, the Senior General and wife and party proceeded to Thirimingalar Mansu Shan Monastery in Lashio and paid homage to State Ovadacaria Maha Bawdayon Monastery Sayadaw Maha Ganthavacaka Pandita Bhaddanta Narada, before supplicating the health and religious matters and donating offertories to the Sayadaw.
