Press Statement
Myanmar rejects the draft resolution tabled by OIC
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has observed that the resolution entitled “Situation of human rights of Rohingya Mulsims and other minorities in Myanmar” was taken action on 13 July 2021 at the 47th Session of Human Rights Council in Geneva.
The said resolution was emphasized on so-called “Rohingya” which has never been recognized as the ethnic nationality by Myanmar. It was also based on false information and one-sided allegations as well as highlighted the roles of the international mechanisms which are not recognized by Myanmar such as mandate holders of Human Rights for Myanmar, the Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar and the Fact-Finding Mission.
Myanmar has never accepted country-specific resolutions which are politically motivated and international mechanisms which interfere internal affairs of the country. The said-resolution has been appeared as a duplicated action and has not reflected the Government’s endeavours on the Rakhine State. Accordingly, the term “Rohingya” which is invented with wider political agenda is also unrecognized and rejected by the Government and the people of Myanmar.
The Government is taking all inclusive and holistic approach in dealing with the Rakhine State. The repatriation process will be proceeded as per the bilateral arrangements with Bangladesh. Moreover, the citizenship verification process will be carried out in accordance with 1982 Citizenship Law.
China and Russia also dissociated themselves from the resolution.
