Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing attends opening ceremony of first underpass in Myanmar

Chairman of State Administra-tion Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing attended the opening ceremony of the first underpass in Myanmar under Pyay Road near Hanthar-wady Roundabout in Kamayut Township in Yangon Region this morning.
Also present at the ceremony together with the Senior General were members of the SAC Ge-neral Mya Tun Oo, General Maung Maung Kyaw, Lt-Gen Moe Myint Tun, U Thein Nyunt and U Khin Maung Swe, Joint Sec-retary of the SAC Lt-Gen Ye Win Oo, union ministers U Tin Htut Oo, U Hla Moe, U Aung Than Oo, Dr Charlie Than, U Khin Yi, Dr Thet Khaing Win and U Min Thein Zan, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Hla Soe, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, the commander of Yangon Command, Mayor U Bo Htay and invited guests.
First, the Senior General arrived at the venue of the ceremony and the Senior General was welcomed there by the Yangon Region chief minister and officials.
Then, the mayor reported to the Senior General on the construction of the underpass to effectively prevent traffic jams and accidents caused by urban development, conve-nience for the elderly and disabled created by lifts and esca-lators of the underpass, job opportunities generated by shops in the underpass and creation of a neat, tidy and safe road-crossing facility that mee-ts the standards of amenities of an urban area.
Afterwards, the Yangon Reg-ion chief minister presented a gift commemorating the commi-ssioning ceremony to the Senior General.
Then, the chief minister, the commander of Yangon Command and the mayor the under-pass by cutting a ribbon while the Senior General opened the entrance by pressing a button.
Afterwards, the Senior Gene-ral and party inspected round the underpass and the Senior General pointed out the need to construct elevated and underground roads without fail as it is impossible to expand road areas while the number of vehicles and population of the city are increasing and to implement subways by taking the under-pass as an initial step before giving instructions on fire safety, emergency rescue and the safety of underpass users.
The underpass has built-in shops and the tunnel located 15 feet and three inches under the ground is 11 feet high, 40 feet wide and 427 feet long. It has four entries and exits which can serve about 6,000 people per hour, three escalators, two lifts for the elderly and disabled and 18 shops. Emergency rescue and fire safety measures have been taken in the underpass by installing security sensors and cameras. The underpass is not only a facility that is very beneficial for the public but also an urban amenity that shows the development of Yangon.
