Lady elephant Mo Mo to celebrate 68th birthday on 20-24 October
Lady elephant, Mo Mo, one of the public favorites of Yangon Zoological Gardens will celebrate her 68th birthday from 20 to 24 this month, according to the news released by the zoo authorities.
The number of guests who will attend the birthday cake cutting party on 22 this month is limited. So, invited guests to the ceremony will be chosen from among the Mo Mo’s lovers who have sent a videoclip birthday wish. A 15-second short video of the birthday wish can be sent through the page chat box not later than 17 October.
Of all the senders of the short video birthday wish, ten will be chosen to attend the birthday party. Every chosen person can take two companions together with him/her. During the three–day birthday ceremony of the elephant cow, Mo Mo, Yangon Zoo will stage many interesting programs for the visitors, according to the news release.
The 68-year old Mo Mo is included in the list of world’s oldest Asian elephants. When Mo Mo arrived at the Yangon Zoo, expert calculation showed that her age was seven. From that time on she has become the most beloved elephant of the people of Myanmar. She entertained the visitors with dances and other demonstrations at the zoo, and she took part in the significant national events with her utmost talent. She retired from all public shows and demonstrations at the age of 60. Since then, she has been pursuing a peaceful life while providing care for the new generation juvenile elephants. And since she reached the age of 60, Yangon Zoo has been celebrating her birthday party annually.
Mo Mo, a stray cub, was found by U Khun Hsanda of Loikaw, Kayah State in a forest in 1961. As she was alone, U Khun Hsanda took her to his home for her safety. He later donated Mo Mo to the Yangon Zoological Gardens. The name, Mo Mo, was given by her zoo mahout.
