Illegal medical practitioners detained in Christ the King Cathedral in Naungyar (B) Ward in Loikaw thanks to tips from local residents

Thanks to the tips from local residents who desire peace and stability, it was learnt that the injured from a terrorist organization and patients were receiving treatments at the Christ the King Cathedral in Naungyar (B) Ward in Loikaw and a combined team of responsible officers from the local battalion, administrative authorities and health personnel inspected the site at 9.30 in the morning of 22 November.

During the inspection, an illegal clinic called Karuna was discovered in the compound of the cathedral together with 13 fathers including Father Celso Ba Shwe, acting bishop of Loikaw Catholic Diocese, 13 sisters, 18 medical practitioners including four doctors, four nurses and 10 assistant nurses who were illegally treating patients, an illegal operation theatre, 48 patients including 20 male illegal patients, 21 female illegal patients, four male COVID-19 patients and three female COVID-19 patients. Moreover, 14 vehicles of various types including four unlicensed cars were found in the compound of the cathedral.

According to the preliminary investigation, it was found that there were two doctors from the township public health department and four nurses from Loikaw People’s Hospital, who joined the CDM in February 2021 and 10 assistant nurses from Loikaw People’s Hospital, who did not join the CDM but worked at the clinic for cash among the doctors and nurses.

As it was also discovered that cases had been filed against the doctors and nurses who joined the CDM under Section 505(a) in March and they were fugitives, effective action will be taken against them in accordance with the law. The 48 patients who were receiving treatments were handed over to the People’s Hospital in Loikaw properly at about 1 pm for further treatments.
