Vice-Chairman of State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win delivers a speech at first Coordination Meeting for Organizing 75 Anniversary Diamond Jubilee of Union Day
Nay Pyi Taw December 2
Vice-Chairman of State Ad-ministration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win, Chairman of the Central Committee for Organizing 75 Anniversary Diamond Jubilee of Union Day, delivered a speech at the first Coordination Meeting for Organizing the 75 Anniversary Diamond Jubilee of the Union Day 2022 held at the Office of the Chairman of the State Administration Council in Nay Pyi Taw at 2 pm today.
The meeting was attended by members of the central committee union ministers, the chairman of the management committee chairman of the Nay Pyi Taw Council, chairmen of sub-committees deputy ministers and officials while chairmen of sub-committees and officials participated in the meeting via video conference.
First, the Vice-Senior General delivered a speech, saying it is the first coordination meeting of the Central Committee for Organizing the 75 Anniversary Diamond Jubilee of the Union Day. As it is the 75 Anniversary Union Day, the diamond jubilee ceremony of the Union Day, which falls on 12 February 2022, will be organized magnificently on a grand scale in accordance with COVID-19 restrictions in the entire country.
Taking a glimpse of the history of the 75 Anniversary Diamond Jubilee Union Day, one can see that Panglong Conference was held in Panglong in Shan State on 12 February 1947 to restore the independence and sovereignty of the country by uniting the mainland and mountainous regions together with national races under the leadership of National Leader General Aung San and the Panglong Agreement was reached based on the united spirit of restoring independence without discriminating between the mainland and mountainous regions.
In other words, Union Day, which falls on 12 February, is a historic day of the unity of national races and marks the beginning of unity and cooperation of national races that led to independence. The union day ceremonies are organized to remind posterity new generations of the essence of unity. As this year’s ceremony coincides with the 75 Anniversary Diamond Jubilee of Union Day, it is necessary for all officials who are performing duties of the country and citizens to organize the ceremony on a grand scale and to participate in the ceremony in unison.
Taking a glimpse of Myanmar’s long history from the past until now, one should not forget that Myanmar has a population of more than 50 million, which is made up of eight major national races such as Kachin, Kayah, Chin, Bamar, Mon, Rakhine and Shan and more than 130 national race groups, who live in 14 states and regions through thick and thin by sharing the same land and water sources under one roof. Therefore, the diamond jubilee ceremony must be organized in line with the five objectives of Union Day.
Since the time of our forefathers, various national races have been living in unity and with a Myanmar spirit in all the regions and states. We need to urge the younger generation to remember and instil in such unity on the occasion when the diamond jubilee of Union Day is celebrated.
For the successful holding of the event, a 14-member central committee, a 17-member management committee and 14 subcommittees were formed. The subcommittees need to do preparatory work for their respective tasks. Doing so must be in accord with the COVID-19 protocols issued by the Ministry of Health. Today, we see the COVID-19 positivity rate under 2 per cent. But, the new Omicron variant is emerging in global countries. The Health Ministry itself is taking preventive measures. Despite the low infection rate in the country now, there might be changes as the diamond jubilee is still two months away. So, the sub-committees need to arrange manpower at maximum to minimum levels for the celebration.
Union Day ceremony has been held 74 times before the diamond jubilee. Therefore, the committees have been familiar with the annual event in terms of work and meeting resolutions. However, they need to work more necessarily as this time is more significant under the category of diamond jubilee.
The chairman of the State Administration Council has given guidance that the 75th anniversary or diamond jubilee of Union Day must be held nationwide on a grand scale. For the successful holding of the event, we all need to try to come up with good ideas and thoughts through inclusive discussion.
Then, the chairmen and officials from the sub-committees of security, welcoming, transport and communications, message compilation, finance, invitation and accommodation, reception, State flag raising, billboard erection, dinner reception, health, information, auditing and event organizing reported on their respective tasks.
The central committee member union ministers gave their supplementary reports, and the Vice-Senior General gave a supplementary guideline.
Later, the meeting came to a close after the Vice-Senior General made a concluding remark.
