Myanmar to distribute second phase of ASEAN humanitarian assistance

THE 3rd coordination meeting of the Management Task Force of the ASEAN Humanitarian Assistance which is provided to Myanmar through the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre) was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday morning.
The meeting was chaired by the Chairman of the task force Union minister for International Cooperation U Ko Ko Hlaing, and Union minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win, Union minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Thet Thet Khine, who are the vice-chairpersons of the task force, and members attended the meeting.
At the meeting, Union minister U Ko Ko Hlaing said that the first phase of ASEAN humanitarian assistance was life-saving assistance for COVID- 19 prevention, control and treatment activities. The second phase of the assistance will start and relevant departments must coordinate more than the first phase to expand the distribution to the people in actual need.
Afterwards, Union minister Dr Thet Khaing Win said he received the first phase of the humanitarian assistance in line with the state policies and with the permission of the Central Committee for the Prevention, Control, and Treatment of COVID-19 and coordinated for the distribution. In addition, according to the requests of the donor organizations, distribution is made under permission. He also added that he is providing the necessary coordination to receive medicines that will benefit the people in need.
The Union minister Dr Thet Thet Khine said that she would coordinate with relevant departments under the rules and regulations based on the previous experiences regarding the second phase of the assistance.
She also added that she would make arrangements for possible distribution challenges and distribute to those in real need. The members of the task force provided suggestions on future plans.
