After the Tatmadaw had to assume the State power on 1 February due to the political emergency situation, security forces , in cooperation with the people, took meausres to detain offenders as NLD terrorists, terrorist groups created by them called the CRPH, NUG, and PDF attempted to commit terrorist acts by blasting buildings ranging from hospitals, schools, religious edifices and public places and killings.
In doing so, 3,751 terrorist acts have been committed in cities since 1 February 2021 and security forces had to take measures to detain 1,492 terrorists and to seize 133 assorted weapons, 1,693 rounds of assorted ammunition, 28 grenades, 217 improvised explosive devices and other explosives. Moreover, security forces managed to foil terrorist attempts to prevent terrorist acts by detaining 9,958 terrorists and seizing 3,417 weapons, 161,500 rounds of assorted ammumition, 647 grenades, 6,895 improvised explosive devices and other explosives in a timely manner.
As a result, masterminds and major groups of terrorist acts in Yangon and other cities in southern Myanmar could be detained in 15 incidents which led to the arrests of 272 detainees and seizures of assorted weapons including 44 pistols, eight .22s, 51 MK-12s, 30 M-16s, 15 M-22s, 55 AK-47s, 10 M4-A1, five 56-1s, four M-79s, 27,228 rounds of ammunition and 286 Claymores and grenades. According to the confessions of the detainees, it was learnt that there were 173 people whose names have been identified accurately and many others whose names have not been identified yet took explosive training courses in some brigades of the KNU. Most of the weapons and ammunition seized were smuggled into the country from respective KNU controlled areas. It was also found that the weapons were remnants of conflicts incited by powerful countries during the Cold War and post-Cold War eras.
With the aim of restoring lasting peace, the Tatmadaw is respecting the provisions of the NCA signed on 15 October 2015 strictly and the nationwide ceasefire has been extended until 28 February 2022. The Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services has expressed his position in meetings, talks and ceremonies related to peace, “To restore perpetual peace aspired by the country and the people, the Tatmadaw will observe the provisions of the NCA strictly.” Moreover, in the five-point roadmap and nine objectives of the State Administration Council, peace has been given priority and implemented and opened the door to the path for facilitating peace talks by forming the National Unity and Peace Implementation Working Committee and National Unity and Peace Implementation Coordination Committee to promote the peace process.
Therefore, signatory EAOs to the NCA are urged to respect the commitments of the NCA and to take measures to enforce the rules of the agreement at lower levels and security action will be taken against the violation of the agreement for the stability of the State.
