Chairman of State Administration Council of Republic of Union of

Myanmar Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing sends

Kayin New Year Day message

2nd January 2022

Esteemed national brethren of Myanmar, The 2nd of January 2022 (1st waxing day of Pytho, Myanmar Year 1383 and Kayin Year 2761) is the Kayin New Year Day, treasured by all the ethnic Kayin brethren.

May this valued day be filled with the blessings of health and happiness and auspiciousness.

Since the ancestors of the Kayin people began settling in Myanmar in about 739 BC, Kayin's have been welcoming the New Year on the 1st of Pyatho (Thalayhtaikokpho)with auspiciousness and celebrating it with joy. At this time of change from an old year to a new year, I believe all will be refreshed with reinvigorated mind and body while taking the lessons of the past.

The national people of Myanmar have been living in unity while cultivating the family spirit and valuing one another amidst the diversity of customs and beliefs.

However, diverse their birthplaces, localities, literature, languages, faiths, traditions and cultures are, they have been living in unity and weal and woe, relying on the resources that come from a single landmass.

Naturally, Kayin people always wear a smile on their face as they are sincere and free from excessive pride. But they are brave and faithful people. They have a long history, and they have fine traditions and wonderful historical and cultural heritages they have possessed since the time of their forefathers.

Kayin State is one the hubs of border trade which holds unspoiled natural beauties, and thanks to its priceless forests it has favourable weather for successful farming. The Thanlwin River is the impressive symbol of Kayin State and the Phase drum represents the cultural symbol of its people. They have the New Year, housewarming, harvesting and other traditional and religious festivals. Kayin don is a popular dance that is lively and amusing. In fact, these cultural heritages are invaluable for Kayin people.

All Kayin national brethren living in various parts of Myanmar are required to preserve the traditions and culture with unity by handing them down generation by generation. I would like to urge future generation youths to maintain integrity, efforts, loyalty and determination to preserve the language, literature, culture, arts, traditions and historical heritage of Kayin national older generations. The union will perpetuate if all national races in the country preserve their fine traditions. Kayin nationals are enjoying the fruit of peace and development thanks to their fine attitude over the country. It is the historical duty of Kayin nationals to preserve the peace heritage already acquired one generation after another.

Nowadays is the period the SAC has been assuming state responsibilities in accordance with the constitution and efforts are being made for stability and development of the country and development of the socio-economic lives of national races as much as possible by adopting the five-point roadmap and nine political, economic and social objectives.

Kayin nationals are seriously invited to cooperate for a better new year by believing that the courage of wisdom and bravery of affection is the noble spirit that should be borne in mind.

We are building the union based on democracy and federalism aspired by the entire national people. The fundamental factors to strengthen the genuine and disciplined democracy of the country are the three main national causes of non-disintegration of the union, non-disintegration of national unity and perpetuation of sovereignty. Therefore, I would like to urge entire national races to continue to build the country with the united strength of all.

The fundamental prerequisite for the perpetuation of the union and prosperity of all national races is the vitalization of union spirit and perpetual peace.

Therefore, it is necessary for all national races and stakeholders to cooperate. Efforts are being made to urge all EAOs to sign the NCA for perpetual peace.

It is necessary for responsible officials and stakeholders to make concerted efforts with a genuine attitude and strong desire.

On the new year day of this year, may Kayin brethren welcome it with noble spirits and best wishes. I would like to send the message to Kayin nationals of national stability, unity and development by celebrating the New Year Festival.
