Myanmar and Cambodia hold bilateral talks

Myanmar and Cambodia held bilateral talks at the meeting hall of the State Administration Council Chairman’s Office in Nay Pyi Taw this afternoon.
First, the Chairman of SAC Prime Minister and the Cambodian Prime Minister exchanged greetings, followed by a bilateral introduction of the delegations of both countries.
Afterwards, Prime Minister of Cambodia Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN SEN noted the bilateral help in COVID-19 prevention, control and treatment undertakings between the two countries and thanked Myanmar for donating vaccines to Cambodia.
Vaccines are being given to Myanmar citizens in Cambodia.
He requested necessary assistance for Cambodian monks, nuns and citizens who are in Myanmar. He said the soonest agreement on tariff reduction for boosting trade cooperation between the two countries must be reached and called for a new bilateral education cooperation program. As regards the tourism industry, the Cambodian Prime Minister discussed the earliest implementation of a travel partner city program between Bagan and Siem Reap and the resumption of flights amidst the COVID-19 restrictions.
The Senior General said the Cambodian PM’s New Year visit further strengthens friendly relations between the two countries. As the ministries of foreign affairs of the two countries have already signed MoU on policy cooperation, they should hold talks at an appropriate time. The three-year COVID-19 control and development project of Cambodia is indeed honourable. Measures will be taken to sign an agreement on avoidance of double taxation in the trade between the two countries.
Bilateral tourism promotion will be realized through cooperation, and the tourism industry will resume when COVID- 19 can be controlled to a certain degree and flights between the two countries will also restart at the earliest possible time.
It is a pleasure to permit 249 Cambodian monks and nuns to pursue religious studies at the International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University during the period from 1999 to 2020. Myanmar-Cambodia monastery has already been established in Yangon. Hence there will be cooperation for the promotion of Buddhism in the two countries. Religious titles were conferred on a Cambodian monk and a layperson this year.
The agreement on the 2017-2021 education cooperation program will be extended for further cooperation. Continued cooperation in defence matters will be ensured. As Mekong subregion countries, the two countries should have unity. He thanked Cambodia for its constructive stand and support for Myanmar in international affairs and ASEAN affairs. The government is working hard for regional development and national peace and stability. It has already amnestied over 48,000 prisoners and will grant more amnesties at appropriate times. He thanked the Cambodian Prime Minister for his enthusiasm and efforts for Myanmar’s peace. This year has been designated as the year of peace and the participation of the special envoy of Cambodia in the peace process is welcomed.
He then expressed pleasure to discuss bilateral and regional cooperation at the meeting.
