People can observe mural paintings at ancient religious edifices in Pakhangyi city

People can observe the mural paintings from Bagan to Kon-bang eras at the religious edifices in Pakhangyi ancient city in Yesagyo Township of Magway Region, said U Myint Thein, deputy director of Department of Archaeology and National Museum (Magway Branch).

Kyayyoegon, ShweUmin hillock and Wakha hillock can be seen in the area where the people resided in the stone age. Then, 330 religious edifices from Bagan to Konbaung eras are located there.

“Architectural works from Bagan to Konbaung eras can be seen in ancient Pakhangyi city. People can observe mural paintings at some 80 ancient religious buildings. Hence, search and maintenance of the ancient works are being carried out in Pakhangyi city as of the 2019-20 fiscal year. It aims to raise the tourism industry in the region,” said the deputy director.

Ancient Pakhangyi city is located in Yesagyo Township of Pakokku District, 11 miles from Yesagyo and 16 miles from Pakokku.
