Vice-Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win visits Myonan Shwezedi Pagoda in Loikaw, provides relief aid to IDPs

Vice-Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win, accompanied by the Kayah State Chief Minister, the Eastern Command Commander and officials, paid homage to Myonan Shwezedi Pagoda in Loikaw, Kayah State, this morning.
The Vice-Senior General and party offered flowers, water and oil lamps to the pagoda and signed in the visitor’s book of the pagoda. The Vice-Senior General also donated cash for the pagoda funds.
The Myonan Shwezedi Pagoda was built as a sand-pagodas in Myanmar year 1200 during the era of the Konbaung Dynasty. King Alaungphaya built the pagodas in Thiridaw Village, Gandayawadi Region, which was the then capital of Kayah State and auspicious ground to ensure victory. It was known as Ywanan Pagoda when the Thiridaw Village was built. These days, Thiridaw Village has become Loikaw and so, the pagoda is known as Myonan Shwezedi Pagoda.
The Vice-Senior General and party visited Ottarayon Monastery in the city and paid respects and offered alms to Sayadaw of Thiri Mingalapon (Hawgyi) Agga Maha Saddhama Jotikadhaja Kayah State Ovada Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sandia.
They also provided clothes aid from the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement to the people who were temporarily displaced due to disturbances by terrorists and had taken shelter in Buddhist monasteries in Loikaw. The IDP people are from the villages of Ngwetaung Ywathit and Hmonpya and some neighbourhoods in Loikaw and were going back to their places.
