More than 50,000 pilgrims visit the Shwezigon Pagoda in Bagan Cultural Heritage Zone

More than 50,000 pilgrims visited the Shwezigon Pagoda in Bagan Cultural Heritage Zone, Mandalay Region, in January, according to an official of the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism.

“Some 56,000 pilgrims visited the Shwezigon Pagoda last January.

The Buphaya Pagoda had 39,560 visitors and the Lawkananda Pagoda 8,704. Every visitor to the Bagan goes and visits the Shwezigon Pagoda,” said the official.

In the last year, there were over 1.5 million pilgrims who visited the Shwezigon Pagoda as the Buphaya Pagoda had over 130,000 visitors and the Lawkananda Pagoda 27,747. The Bagan Cultural Heritage Zone has 150 hotels and guest houses. Of them, 63 are currently allowed to be operated in compliance with the COVID-19 rules and restrictions.
