NAY PYI TAW February 16

Chairman of  the State Admini-stration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing met departmental officials and local elders of Mongkhat and Mongyaung townships in Shan State (East) at the General Ad-ministration Department Offi-ces of the townships separately today and discussed regional development.

Present were members of the Senior General’s entourage, the chief minister of Shan State, the commander of Triangle Region Command, officials, district and township level departmental officials of Mongkhat, Mongyaung and Mongyaung townships, local elders and members of Shan, Lahu and Akha cultural troupes.

Kengtung District Administrator U Win Min Thein, Mon-gkhat Township Administra-tor U Myint Soe, Mongyaung Township Administrator U Nay Myat Thu, Tachilek District Administrator U Myint Naing and local elders reported on points of the regions, drinking water requirement in Mongkhat, educational needs, upgrading of Mongkhat entrance road and Mongkhat-Monyin road, issu-ance of NRCs under pankin project, COVID-19 prevention and treatment, program to upgrade the entrance road of Datlon Pagoda, a historic pagoda of the town, and Yangpon-Wanphyat-Wanyuk village road,  upgrading of Donnwe bridge on Nantphon creek destroy-ed by downhill current into a reinforced concrete one, and needs for regional development.

Union ministers Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung, U Hla Moe, Dr Thet Khaing Win, Dr Nyunt Pe, Shan State Chief Minister Dr Kyaw Tun explained ministry-wise programs, which include, upgrading of intra village and village roads, field tours to ensure sufficient drink-ing water supply in Mongkhat Township, health improvement programs, employment of new education staff at the relevant places.

In discussing regional deve-lopment, the Senior General said he had visited the Mongkhat and Mongyaung regions time and again during the time he was the commander of Triangle Region Command. Efforts were exerted in building Monyin road which was later upgraded. If clean water from Nantlway creek can be produced through the use of modern technology, Mongkhat will surely have suffi-cient water supply. Moreover, a research can be carried out to build a hydropower plant on the creek. Assistance for road upgrading programs will be provided.

He said it is a pleasure to witness significant progress and prospering businesses of Mon-gkhat and Mongyaung regions when compared with the past. But effective use of land and water resources is required for gaining further progress. Mongyaung region is the rice bowl of Shan State (East). It can also grow other crops. Thanks to its favourable soil and water resources, it should produce quality rice. Apart from monsoon crops, irrigated cultivation should be done in the open season to turn the region into an agricultural bas-ed industry that will produce rice based goods and other quality goods. Rubber should be cultivated on a commercial scale. Officials should impose strict regulations to ensure that businesses are actually run by locals. Systematic cage-breeding will produce natural fertilizers for crops. Systematic  breeding will increase meat output. The region will be able to export quality goods to the surrounding places and neigh-bouring countries by manufac-turing quality goods through agriculture plus farming busi-nesses. Thus, local people will enjoy socio-economic develop-ment.

Systematic cultivation and farming will develop the local economy. As the project calls for intellectuals and technicians, education should be encouraged. Encouragement for edu-cation is weak and transport is poor in Shan State (East), Kayah State and Chin State which also have language barriers. The states must develop the education sector and the locals must encourage their children’s education. Likewise, they must make efforts for economic development.

The Senior General said he always pushes local people at every place he visits to promote educational activities, and pro-vides assistance to them. The State has reopened schools and universities and given priority to increasing the number of educated persons. Education and health staff are the producers of subject-wise intellec-tuals and technicians. Education and health staffs that joined CDM under a certain political situation are urged to return to work in accord with the rules. Teachers need qualifications and students should also try hard. Education development is based on the involvement of students, parents, teachers and administrators. Students can learn agriculture and far-ming related education after completing the middle school level. From that stage they can pursue university education at different levels. They can pursue education at the universities in Kengtung.  Assistance should be provided for the emergence of the persons outstanding in the relevant fields. The State will provide education assistance to the utmost degree. So the region must also give encouragement for the emergence of educated human resources. All should strive for regional and national education development. Syste-matic agriculture and farming will bring regional economic progress. Thanks to Myanmar Police Force and Tatmadaw  drug cases are falling in the area which was once notorious for its narcotic drugs. Narcotic drugs must be curbed as the region should enjoy progress through industrial and agri-cultural development.

Mongkhat should be a pro-spering region free from drugs. There cannot be any progress without political stability. The government never encourages any armed struggles in the name of politics or race. In democracy political dialogue is the only way to find an answer. Departmental personnel should cooperate with the spirit of brothers. Collective efforts of locals, administrators, depart-mental personnel are requir-ed for regional development. Without considering themselves as temporary residents, civil servants should do their utmost for regional development.

The Senior General present-ed  gifts  for  Mongkhat  and Mongyaung regions through officials.

After the meeting, the Senior General and party cordially conversed with the depart-mental officials, local elders and members of Shan, Lahu and Akha cultural troupes.
