Statement on Ceasefire and Perpetual Peace

1. The Tatmadaw has been assuming duties of the State in accord with the 2008 Constitution for over a year. The State administration Council has adopted the five-point Road Map for national peace, stability, unity, progress and flourishing of genuine and disciplined multi-party democracy and the fourth point states, “Emphasis will be placed on achieving enduring peace for the entire nation in line with the agreements set out in the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement.” In order to realize the point, SAC is continuously implementing the peace process in accord with the NCA.

2. Perpetual peace is of vital importance for setting up a Union based on democracy and the federal system. SAC held the Diamond Jubilee Union Day, a significant historical event, on a grand scale together with ethnic races of the Union. It has instilled the Union spirit, the most important element for the perpetuation of Union in the ethnic peoples.

3. Seven NCA signatory EAOs and four non-signatory EAOs attended the ceremony. They attended the preliminary meeting for perpetual peace held to establish a Union based on democracy and federal system and discussed matters relating to peace.

4. The Tatmadaw issued the statement on Ceasefire and Perpetual Peace for 20 times during the period from 21 December 2018 to 28 February 2022 and halted all military operations. After meeting with the Cambodian Prime Minister, the alternate chair of ASEAN, during the latter’s working visit to Myanmar on 7 and 8 January 2022, the joint statement which announced the cessation of military engagements till the end of this year was issued. In the address in commemoration of the first anniversary of the performance of duties of the State by SAC, it was stated that the ceasefire will be held till the end of 2022.

5. The Tatmadaw will further cease all military operations from 1 March to 31 December 2022 across the nation except the period when security and administrative machinery of the government in addition to State defence and administrative measures are encroached on, for achieving perpetual peace in the entire nation, enhancing the peace process, and effectively carrying out COVID-19 prevention, control and treatment undertakings in the entire nation.

6. As the country is going to advance in accord with democratic culture of finding the answer through negotiations to reach the goal of peace aspired by the entire people. In this regard, all the EAOs and relevant organizations must participate in the task with utmost physical and intellectual efforts for practically promoting the peace process.
