Vice Chairman of State Administration Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win meets departmental personnel, local people from Cocogyun Township, visits township hospital, high school, coconut fiber industries

Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win met with departmental personnel and local people from Cocogyun Township, Yangon Region, this morning.

Also present were SAC members U Moung Har, Saw Daniel, Dr Banya Aung Moe, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Moe Aung, senior military officers from the Office of the Commanderin-Chief, the commander of Yangon Command, deputy ministers and township level departmental officials.

First, Township Administration Council chairman U Hsan Min reported on background history of the township and administrative, economic and social affairs. The Vice-Senior General asked for further information and fulfilled the needs.

Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein briefed on regional development measures.

Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Senior General said he came here to enquire about the implementation of the five-point roadmap and nine objectives of the SAC. Department officials were also brought here to fulfil the needs and solve the problems of the townspeople and service personnel. Coco Island or Cocogyun is located at the center of the Adman Sea and the Bay of Bengal just over 100 miles from Hainggyikyun and over 200 miles from Yangon.

It is south westernmost of the country. Geographically and strategically important, it is made up of 12 islands. Those living there need to know the value of the island. Likewise, the service personnel on the island deserve recognition as they are serving their duties on the frontline of the country with patience. The Prime Minister has assigned the duty to the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development to implement the policy on national prosperity and food sufficiency adopted by himself and create job opportunities to increase per capita income. Training courses are being conducted to run a coconut fiber factory and industries producing coconut products as SMEs. In conducting courses, it is necessary to include training that can really facilitate the manufacturing of products really used among consumers. Then, market can be achieved and income will increase. Manufacturing of unserviceable goods will lead to loss of labour and capital.

Moreover, it is necessary to suggest the regional government through township authorities to make a plan on developing a market for local products.

Similarly, based on the region’s advantage of being rich in coconut, ways should be sought to produce new personal goods with the application of technology.

Regarding education, as there is no gap between urban and rural education sectors in the age of IT, there will be a higher pass rate in matriculation through efforts, goodwill of teachers, eagerness of students in academic achievement, encouragement of parents and township administrative bodies. It is necessary to have good appearance of schools through making cooperative efforts in cleaning works inside and outside the schools in order that students could attend the schools happily. Regarding regional development, the Prime Minister has provided the needs on infrastructure since 2012. The Air Force aircraft run a flight every two weeks and naval ships once a month for convenience of the local travellers in transportation.

It is required for all to make collective efforts in ensuring better development of the region.

Next, the Vice-Senior General presented cash assistance for development of the region through officials and the chief minister of regional government foodstuff.

Afterwards, the Vice-Senior General and party visited local people receiving medical treatment at the township hospital in Cocokyun and presented provisions to them.

The Vice-Senior General and party took an inspection tour of the hospital and made coordination to fulfill its needs.

In meeting the health staff of the hospital, the Vice-Senior General gave instructions on having adequate medicines and medical equipment necessary for performing diagnostic services, systematic use of provided medical equipment for longterm use, the need of educational services on health knowledge, and the need of cooperation with township authorities and local people on administrative matters necessary for the hospital. He presented a cash bonus and foodstuffs to them.

Later, the Vice-Senior General and party visited Cocokyun BEHS where a course on technology about foodstuff and personal goods is being conducted by the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development and met participants in the course and officials there.

The Vice-Senior General presented gifts to them. He inspected the school and made coordination to fulfill the needs of the school.

The Vice-Senior General and party also visited Aung Naing Thu Coconut Fibre Rope Enterprise and made coordination on its needs.
