NAY PYI TAW May 19
A meeting on the development of Nay Pyi Taw Council area was held at the State Administration Council Chairman’s Office this afternoon addressed by Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
Also present were Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Tin Htut Oo, Union Minister for Cooperatives and Rural Development U Hla Moe, Chairman of Nay Pyi Taw Council Dr Maung Maung Naing, Lt-Gen Than Tun Oo from the Office of the Commander-in- Chief (Army) and Commander of Nay Pyi Taw Command Maj- Gen Zaw Hein.
The Senior General said as Nay Pyi Taw is the country’s capital, development undertakings should be prioritized and the capital should be developed into a Green City, a Clean City, a Smart City and a model for all regions and states. The area of Nay Pyi Taw Council is 2,724 square miles. It has over 320,000 areas of croplands, 32 reservoirs. Located in the area between Eastern and Central mountain ranges Nay Pyi Taw has many natural watercourses including Paunglaung (Sittaung River), Ngalike Creek and Hsintay Creek and good soil.
Hence, the area sees success in its agriculture and livestock undertakings. In this regard, University of Agriculture, University of Livestock and Veterinary Science and University ofForestry were moved to Nay Pyi Taw.
Buffalo, cattle, goat, pig and chicken farming is developing in the area.Farming zones have been set up in the surrounding areas of Tatkon as the soil there is favourable. Apart from universities, the area has the ministry head offices. Hence, it should be a model in agro and farming based industries.
Water, technology and quality strains are the basic needs for agriculture. River water pumping stations should be set up to ensure adequate water supply in summer and to grow multiple crops round the year as the area is many rivers, and creeks. Availability of fertilizers, quality strains and technology will develop crops cultivation. Systemic preparation of cultivatable land will develop agriculture.
The national vision of the nation is to ensure prosperity of the country and sufficiency of food. Myanmar has cultivable land resources in which livestock can also be undertaken.
If livestock tasks can be carried out systematically, livestock products can be produced to meet the local demand as well as sell it to other regions and states. Waste from the livestock farms can produce bio-fertilizers in order to contribute to agricultural tasks. If so, manufacturing industries will develop with creation of job opportunities and economic development.
Hence, relevant ministries and officials of Nay Pyi Taw Council were urged to symbolize agriculture and livestock tasks of Nay Pyi Taw Council Area.
Chairman of Nay Pyi Taw Council Dr Maung Maung Naing, Union Ministers U Tin Htut Oo and U Hla Moe, Lt-Gen Than Tun Oo and Commander of Nay Pyi Taw Command Maj-Gen Zaw Hein reported on land utilization in Nay Pyi Taw Council Area, undertaking and production of agriculture and livestock farms, inflow of water to dams and supply of agricultural water, formation of agricultural farmers’ cooperative societies for systematically undertaking agriculture tasks and manufacturing tasks, operation of small-scale industries,
and implementation of river water pumping stations for irrigate crops in mixed cropping and double cropping patterns.
In his response, the Senior General said the agricultural tasks require water in summer.
If river water pumping stations and solar-power small-scale river water pumping stations supply water to the farms, it can cut the costs. Hence, it is necessary to efficiently use water.
Emphasis must be placed on operation of agro-businesses.
If paddy among main crops such as paddy, maize, beans and edible oil is grown in Nay Pyi Taw area, efforts must be made for increasing per-acre yield. Local farmers need to grow crops to meet the target of per-acre yield set by the State. Officials need to fulfill the needs of quality strains of crops, fertilizers and natural fertilizers to the farmers in respective sectors. Waste from cattle farming should be used as bio-fertilizer for natural fertilizer. Cattle must be bred in cage system. As feedstuff can be obtained from the agricultural produce, it will ensure sufficiency of feedstuffs for the livestock farms.
It is necessary to engage in agricultural and livestock breeding activities by effectively and systematically using farmland.
Private sector has been allowed to grow mango and engage in livestock breeding in the Nay Pyi Taw area. As such, responsible officials need to take supervisory measures to ensure those activities are carried out in the allotted farmlands in accord with the rules and disciplines. Concerted efforts are necessary to boost per-acre yield in agricultural undertakings. If we can serve the interests of farmers and boost manufacturing, the country will see abundant job opportunities and make best use of workforce.
For ensuring enough irrigation water, stored water must be used systematically. Water must be efficiently used without any wastage. It is also required to maintain the mangrove forest areas. Meanwhile, measures to ensure temperate climate and share water are necessary. For this, good management is required.
Sound management will make products from agriculture and livestock breeding successful.
Locally produced crops must be turned into dry food and valueadded products for both local and foreign markets. The State will render necessary assistance for smokeless small- and mediumscale industries. The Nay Pyi Taw Council area needs better transport and enough electricity supply. If we can turn Nay Pyi Taw into a Green City, Clean City or Smart City and make products ideal, there will be a lot of opportunities for our country. First, it is necessary to systematically engage in agricultural undertakings and boost production. Likewise, livestock breeding needs systematic cage breeding system.
Good crop strains with good yield and pedigree animals are required for boosting productivity.
All-out efforts are necessary to boost agriculture and livestock breeding in the Nay Pyi Taw area through sound management.
