Yangon International Airport Provides Convenient Arrangements

Myanmar has resumed the commercial flights starting 17 April after suspending for over two years due to COVID-19 pandemic.

During the suspension period, the airport only handled the rescues and cargo flights for the convenience of the passengers.

From 17 April to 17 May, 2 domestic and 7 internationals, total of 9 airlines operated at Yangon International Airport.

There are around 600 arrivals of passengers by both the commercial and relief flights while about 900 departures daily.

Tin Maung Htwe, Deputy DirectorGeneral, Department of  Civil Aviation said:“Commercial flights such as schedule flights (regular) and relief flights are resuming on 17 April. Currently, there are more than 600 arrivals and 900 departures per day. From 17 to 30 April, there are more than 16,000 arrivals and departures. However, the number of passengers will increase if the airlines that have been proposed to expand the flights are allowed to do so.”

Yangon International Airport has been operating in accordance with the relevant health plans for all passengers and airport staff.

For the prevention of COVID-19, the RTD test have been provided for Myanmar nationals and foreigners who enter Myanmar by commercial flights starting the 1 of May.

Passenger, Tun Tun Oo said: “I am coming from Qatar Airport, transit by Bangkok and there was no difficulty. When I arrived at the airport, fill out the arrival form and pay the fees & get the COVID-19 test at the RTD counter.

It took about 15 minutes to half an hour to get results.”

The Department of Civil Aviation also cooperate with the relevant organizations to make the necessary arrangements for the smooth arrival of passengers by the international airlines.

Tin Maung Htwe, Deputy Director General, Department of Civil Aviation said: “Our department of Civil Aviation makes arrangements for the arrival and departure of international airlines with relevant organizations and airports. Also we posted the up to date COVID-19 travel guidelines for passengers on our website.”

It is learnt that 10 airlines of both domestic and international flights will be operated in Yangon International Airport during the period from 18 May to 29 October.
