NAY PYI TAW June 2
Families of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army, Navy and Air) and the military commands have been holding annual monsoon mass treeplanting ceremonies since 2011 with the aim of conserving the environment, improving the weather, providing shade and supporting the national economy in a way.
Families of the office held the first monsoon tree-planting ceremony for 2022 at a place near Yezin Dam in ZeyathiriTownship, Nay Pyi Taw. Chairman of State Administration Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing led the ceremony by planting a Yadana teak sapling.
Also present were Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, wife of the Senior General, SAC Vice Chairman Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice – Senior General Soe Win and wife Daw Than Than Nwe, Union ministers and their wives, the Chief of General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) and wife, the Commander-in-Chief (Navy) and wife, the Commander-in-Chief (Air) and wife, senior military officers of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief and their wives, the Nay Pyi Taw Command commander and wife, senior officer trainees of National Defence College, officers, other ranks and families of the relevant offices and departments under the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army).
The ceremony’s aim of ensuring long-term existence of forest resources, conserving eco-system and forests and ensuring active public participation In his speech, the Senior General said Tatmadaw started holding annual monsoon treeplanting ceremonies in 2011. It could not hold the ceremony in 2021 because of the high COVID-19 infection rate. Mostly Tatmadaw holds the ceremony in July when soil is good and rain is regular. Due to the earlier arrival of monsoon and good weather, the ceremony is held earlier than the previous years.
Trees are the food chain of all living things, and they serve as the oxygen producers for them. Tree-planting directly or indirectly benefits the planter and his environment. Hence, a saying, “A strong tree is a shelter for ten thousand birds” emerges in human society.
Tatmadaw is holding a treeplanting ceremony with the aim of ensuring long-term existence of forest resources, conserving ecosystems and forests and ensuring active public participation. Trees adjust the temperature of the atmosphere. So, trees prevent the occurrence of severe climate change. In the past, the Yezin area had dry weather.
Continuous planting of trees has created a favourable climate and a green environment.
Establishment of region/state-wise fuel wood plantations and all-inclusiveness for the thriving of every single tree As Myanmar is a developing country, it is still using wood and charcoal as fuel. About 70 percent of the country’s population is rural people and most of them use wood as their main fuel. So, they are relying on forest resources. In this regard, a directive was given to set up at least two fuel wood plantations per village in all regions and states to reduce their dependence on forests. Planting trees alone is not enough. Every single sapling must be systematically nurtured for its growth. The respective departments must take the responsibility for the survival of every sapling.
Moreover, all the citizens of the country must also join hands in the movement.
The country’s forest area is declining year after year with more deteriorating forests. Control measures must be taken for excessive logging, seeking self-interest by engaging in illegal timber extraction and slash-and-burn agriculture.
Without enough electricity supply, use of firewood will continue.
So, firewood-substitute fuels are should be used. As the country has a lot of woodbased buildings, efforts must be made to ensure more modern buildings emerge to improve living standard.
Continue efforts for ensuring a green and pleasant country taking pride among the global community Respective regions need to grow and maintain trees. Tree planting benefits not only for the present but also for posterity.
With lush and green forests, a healthy and happy society can be handed down to generations.
Use of all wood-based products must be reduced that can also contribute to national prosperity in a way. Efforts must continue for the country to take pride of being a lush and green one among the international community.
