SAC Chairman Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing inspects potentials for maintenance of Pyidaungsu Hall and related buildings of National Convention

Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by Council member Admiral Tin Aung San, Joint Secretary Lt-Gen Ye Win Oo, Union Minister for Construction U Shwe Lay, Chief Minister of Yangon Region U Soe Thein, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Nyunt Win Swe, Mayor U Bo Htay, deputy ministers and officials, inspected the Pyidaungsu Hall where the National Convention was convened to draw the Constitution (2008) near Nyaunghnapin Village of Hlegu Township in Yangon Region this morning.
At the Pyidaungsu Hall, Union Minister for Construction U Shwe Lay reported to the Senior General on history of the building, damage parts and preparations for maintenance.
After hearing the report, the Senior General said that these were historic buildings where the Constitution (2008) which is important for the State was drawn. These historic buildings were maintained as much as possible in successive eras.
Due to weakness in maintenance, the damaged parts have come out. Emphasis must be placed on maintenance for long term existence of buildings.
It is necessary to repair the existing buildings. The Senior General stressed the need to systematic maintain and entrance roads.
The Senior General and party viewed round the Pyidaungsu Hall and Anawrahta Yeiktha and have instructions to officials.
The National Convention was convened at the Pyidaungsu Hall seven times with the participation of 702 delegates from eight groups from 2004 to 2007 in order to approve the Constitution (2008). After approving the constitution, it was not longer to use the hall. The venue where the National Convention was convened is located on 585.81 acres of land, 200 acres of which is designated as the agricultural zone and 100 more acres as the livestock zone. As maintenance is weak, some parts are damaged. Now, the buildings will be placed under maintenance.
At the meeting hall of Nyaunghnapin agriculture and livestock special zone, the Senior General heard reports on undertakings of agriculture and livestock farming works in respective zones, construction of roads in the zones, production of crops, meat, egg and milk from respective zones, creation of jobs for the local people and further implementation of the agriculture and livestock zones presented by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein and Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr Aung Gyi.
In his response to the reports, the Senior General said that previous Tatmadaw government in successive eras have been implementing agriculture and livestock farming works in respective zones for greening the 30-mile radius area of Yangon City and for local people to have good food supplies.
Nyaunghnapin agriculture and livestock special zone is engaged in cultivation of crops and perennial crops such as mango, jackfruit, guava and lemon for food supplies and grow the vegetables successfully.
It is necessary to efficiently utilize the sown acreage with the correct agricultural techniques and proper water supply. Efforts must be mad for increasing per-acre yield of the crops. Livestock farms must be operated systematically. In so doing, feedstuffs must be given to the animals, and waste from livestock farms must be used as bio-fertilizers.
Agriculture and livestock breeding rely on each other.
So a modern agricultural and livestock farming system is required. Related schools, universities and colleges need to teach systematically to turn out students proficient in agricultural and livestock breeding skills. Responsible officials are to take systematic measures to ensure that private businesses fully utilize their allocated farmlands only for farming purposes.
There are daily requirements of meat and fish for the people in Yangon city. With excessive catches of fish in the seas, rivers and creeks, fish resources are depleting.
Therefore, systematic fish farming is necessary to ensure enough supply to Yangon. Fish is the cheapest of all humans are consuming. Responsible officials are to try to produce fish resources in the long run.
Agricultural and livestock activities must successfully be carried out to produce abundant fish, meat and vegetables for enough supply for the people.
Similarly, dairy cow farming must be run systematically to distribute enough milk to the residents, the Senior General said.
He then discussed with heads of Yangon Region Agriculture Department, Livestock and Veterinary Department and Fisheries Department ongoing and agricultural and livestock breeding activities and future tasks for the development of agricultural and livestock sectors across the country.
The Senior General and party went round in the farming zone and inspected the organic vegetable plantation and CJ Feed Myanmar chicken farm being co-operated by the Agriculture Department and Sein Lan Cooperatives Society. Officials reported on their respective sectors and the Senior General raised questions and made discussions.
