Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by SAC member Admiral Tin Aung San, Joint Secretary Lt-Gen Ye Win Oo, Union ministers U Thaung Han, U Min Thein Zan and U Shwe Lay, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, the Yangon Command commander, the Yangon mayor and officials, inspected upgrading of Aung San Stadium in Mingala Taungnyunt Township, Yangon Region this morning.
At the meeting hall, Union ministers, the chief minister, Director of Directorate Military Engineers Maj-Gen Myo Thant and officials reported on points and brief history of the stadium, progress in implementing the guidelines given by the Prime Minister during his inspection of the facility in 2021, formation of committees for the upgrading project, plans for building underpasses and overpasses for the convenience of spectators, new 3,000-capacity indoor stadium project and planned designs with the help of powerpoint and video clips.
In response, the Senior General said Aung San Stadium is a historic facility in terms of name, fine traditions and age.
It is also the birth place of the success of Myanmar sports.
So, those find traditions must be preserved, and the stadium must be upgraded to host Olympic Games in the future.
The upgrading plan should include the holding of eight kinds of international sports competitions, and should include car parking lots and publicareas. The related ministries,the region and state governments and DME should made coordinated efforts to ensure that there are no loopholes in implementing the project.
Later, the Senior General inspected the scale model of the stadium and made arrangements for work facilitation.
The Senior General and party looked around Aung San Stadium in a motorcade. They also inspected the indoor stadium.
Aung San Stadium was built as the Burma Athletic Association Ground (BAA) in 1906.
The stadium host popular local sports events and international events. The most memorable event at the stadium was the Holiday on Ice. The BAA was renamed Aung San Stadium on 17 October 1953. The stadium with fine traditions is under upgrading project to meet its former status of holding national level sports events and international events on a grand scale. After the completion of the project, the main stadium will have 30,000 seats and the indoor stadium will have 3000 seats.
