Peterhof Palace, one of Russia’s most iconic buildings, is known as the “Petrodvorets” in Russian. The palace, located in the Gulf of Finland, was commissioned by King Peter, who founded St. Petersburg. After Russia won the war between Sweden and Russia, the magnificent palace was built in 10 years to show Russia’s great power. In 1990, it was recognized by UNESCO as a historical site. There are 173 water statues and fountains, and the large golden statues are beautifully carved. King Peter used the palace as a summer palace, which was dug directly from the sea to the palace to allow water to flow to the base of the palace, and then systematically diverted through the lotus pond in front of the palace. The water from the fountain falls into the lotus pond, which then flows into the surrounding gardens and parks. Russia’s unique and sophisticated architectural prowess can be seen in the meticulous design of the route back into the sea through the parks. Many bombs exploded during World War II, destroying most of the palace building and parts of the park, as well as fountains and architecture.
After the renovation work, it was reopened to the public in 1945. The fountains inside the palace and park were completely renovated in 1950 and are still in good condition today. Fountains are usually closed during the winter and the rest of the season, and only open in the summer.
The wives and members of the senior military officers and outstanding male and female officers, who accompanied the Senior General on the trip, also visited the Parliament building, Onegin Art Gallery and landmarks in St. Petersburg and officials from the places they visited and officials from Myanmar embassy and office of the Myanmar military attaché explained them.
