The Hluttaw is the highest platform in political trend in democracy, and ethnic representatives must further join the political platform in the Hluttaw

Chairman of the State Administration Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing received a peace delegation led by Vice-Chairman (1) of Shan State Progress Party (SSPP) Sao Khur Tai at the parlour of Bayintnaung Villa in Nay Pyi Taw this morning to talk about peace issues.

The peace talk was attended by Vice-Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win, Council members General Mya Tun Oo, Lt-Gen Moe Myint Tun and Lt-Gen Yar Pyae. The Vice-Chairman(1) of Shan State  Progress Party (SSPP) was accompanied by Vice-Chairman (2) Sao Khun Seng and Central Committee member Sao Naw Leik.

At the talk, the Senior General explained efforts of the Tatmadaw in successive eras for ending the internal armed conflicts and paving the path of multiparty democracy, and needs to enjoy the freedom of expression and entitlements and demand the requirements in democracy peacefully under the law. The Senior General said that the Hluttaw is the highest platform in political trend in democracy, and ethnic representatives must further join the political platform in the Hluttaw so as to demand rights of their regions under the law, plans to openly discuss demands of the ethnic armed organizations and actual necessary and appropriate points for the regions and the State in the peace talks, needs to hold discussions with a wider scope of knowledge for the sake of the Union, measures for exercising the multi-party democratic system in line with the people’s wish, and building the Union based democracy and federalism.

The Vice-Chairman (1) and party of the Shan State Progress Party (SSPP) discussed their pleasure for inviting them to join the peace talks, the plan of Shan State Progress Party (SSPP) to actively participate in the peace talks, potentials for building the modernized future Union if all ethnic people make utmost efforts in unison, exercising the multi-party democratic system, and expressed their same attitudes for construction of a Union based on democracy and federalism and reported on regional development measures.

Then, the Senior General also discussed that the Tatmadaw decided to continuously service as the guardian of the country and is carrying out the tasks under the law, adding ethnic organizations are to do their tasks for enjoying the democracy and federal rights under the law, disciplines and democratic practice. They frankly exchanged their views on peace and regional development measures.

After the meeting, the Senior General presented gifts to the Vice-Chairman (1) and party of the Shan State Progress Party (SSPP) who returned domestic gifts. They all posed for documentary photos.

The Vice-Chairman (1) and party of the Shan State Progress Party (SSPP) will continue peace talks with the Peace Talks Committee and the National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee formed with Council members by the State Administration Council.
