Vice-Senior General Soe Win addresses second coordination meeting of 23rd Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competitions

The Leading Committee for Organizing the 23rd Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competitions held its second coordination meeting at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture in accord with the COVID-19 preventive guidelines in Nay Pyi Taw at 2 pm today with an address by Patron of the leading committee Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win.

The meeting was attended by Union ministers, deputy ministers, Nay Pyi Taw Council members, permanent secretaries, directors general, members of the leading committee and the work committee and officials.

Addressing the meeting, the Vice-Senior General said the present world is progressing technologically and materially.

As such, ideologies of boundless freedom and social media have played an important role. Social networks can be used not only to benefit the education and health sectors but also to permeate, lower or harm the political, economic and social sectors of the country.

For the people of younger generation with innovative and adventurous ideas who will be passing down the future of our nation, such social networks are penetrating into them with extreme ideologies contrary to Myanmar’s geographical conditions and prevailing situations on the pretext of the arts appealing to youth folks.

Actually, the fine arts is delicate and have emotional influences.

It can make the wild tame or the tame wild. It can change white into black or vice versa.

This is why officials with a sense of responsibility are making all-out efforts to resume the Myanmar traditional performing arts competitions in accord with the guidance of the Head of State.

At the first meeting held in August, Union ministers from relevant ministries, departmental officials, members of the leading and work committees judges from the respective genres in the competition and representatives from the regions and states discussed the ongoing and continued measures for the successful holding the competitions and reached some decisions.

At the current meeting, they will have to present and discuss the implementation of the resolutions of the previous meeting as well as the ongoing and continue measures in the final stage.

The people are taking interest as the performing arts competitions being held in the various regions and states are being reported in the TV and newspapers. The central level competitions are also nearing.

Therefore, the working committee and subcommittees are to raise momentum in carrying out the tasks to be able to grandly hold the State-level 23th Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competitions in accordance with the social objective of the State Administration Council’s Nine Objectives saying “To respect and promote the customs traditions of all National peoples and preserve and safeguard their cultural heritage and national characteristics”.

It is necessary for officials concerned to report and brief on completion of sector-wise tasks as scheduled and present matters needed to be finally decided at the meeting held today.

Chairman of the Leading Organizing Committee Union Minister U Ko Ko briefed on the schedule of holding the competitions and presenting prizes.

Afterwards, Secretary of the Leading Organizing Committee Deputy Minister Dr Moe Zaw Tun briefed on completion of carrying out the decisions made at the first meeting.

Next, Union Ministers Lt-Gen Soe Htut, U Win Shein, U Maung Maung Ohn, Admiral Tin Aung San, U Thaung Han, Dr Nyunt Pe, Dr Thet Khaing Win and Dr Htay Aung, members of the Leading Organizing Committee, respectively presented matters to be able to successfully hold the competitions.

Then, officials of the respective subcommittees reported on sector-wise tasks on holding the competitions.

In his conclusion remarks at the meeting, the Vice-Senior General said it is to carry out the tasks for holding the competitions looking forward to uplifting and national prestige and integrity and preserving the cultural heritage and national characteristics, strengthening friendship and solidarity of ethnic peoples, and ensuring long-lasting existence of traditional cultural heritage of performing arts of ethnic peoples.

It is also necessary to make efforts to ensure that new generation youths will keep our traditional cultural performing arts in their hearts and be inspired to convey and hand them over in the future.
