SAC Vice Chairman Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win enjoys team-wise marionette contest

Patron of Leading Organizing Committee on the 23rd Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competitions Vice Chairman of State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win watched a marionette contest at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture this evening.

Sagaing Region team performed the Ngapada Akakhara play in the armature level marionette (first class) contest. The Vice-Senior General was accompanied by the Nay Pyi Taw Council chairman, the Nay Pyi Taw Command commander, deputy ministers, officials and judges.

The first Myanmar Traditional  Cultural  Performing Arts Competitions was held in 1993 and for the first time marionette contest was included in the competitions in 1998. So, the marionette art that vanished during a certain length of time has regained popularity. The marionette art lost popularity together with the competitions that was halted due to certain reasons.

Drama and marionette contests are included in this year’s competition held to preserve Myanmar cultural heritage and to rediscover the traditional drama and marionette art.
