NAY PYI TAW December 8
Officials, distinguished guests, Myanmar traditional medicine practitioners and scholars of the related branches attending the 21st Myanmar Traditional Medicine Practitioners Conference and Myanmar Traditional Medicine Seminar,Since 2000 Myanmar traditional medicine practitioners and scholars of the related branches have been organizing a pleasant gathering to share knowledge and experience cordially.
This is the 21st anniversary of the annual cold-season gathering.
In accord with the practice of attending the conference by the predecessors without fail, all the practitioners are poised to hold talks for the progress of Myanmar traditional medicine at the plenary meeting. On this occasion, I, with a heartfelt delight, wish you all health and happiness.
Myanmar traditional medicine is a profession that has been flourishing throughout the past successive eras including Tagaung, Sriksetra, Bagan, Inwa,Pinya and Konboung periods.
Successive generations have relied on it. Thanks to traditional medicine, Myanmar people were fit and healthy enough to protect their country.
Myanmar traditional medicine is formed with four main branches.
Unlike medicines from other countries, it is suitable with Myanmar geographical conditions and has been standing as an advanced medical branch all along the history.
Traditional medicine practitioners and attendees, The unity and efforts of traditional medicine practitioners for public health is so encouraging.
For any organization, unity means strength. I believe that traditional medicine practitioners value unity and are serving the interest of the nation and people with united efforts.
In fact, traditional medicine practitioners are honourable persons of the professional field that generates income as well as merits. They are the persons who inherit, preserve and hand down traditional medicine, the most basic need of the people and one of the main ancestral heritages.
Hence, they deserve honor and respect.
At this conference, the delegates will find means to develop traditional medicines in all areas, further enhance the medical potency, qualifications and moral ethics of practitioners, develop production technology in cooperation with internal and external scholars and organizations. Thanks to the excellent goals, the conference will produce good results. As the conference focuses on sharing experiences and academic concepts, it will also be an invaluable gathering for the future of both the ancestors and the inheritors.
Despite the continuous advancement of western medicine, people around the world are relying more on their own traditional medicines and therapies.
The State Administration Council has adopted an objective to ensure health and fitness of the entire country and has been taking COVID-19 preventive measures as a long-term program.
Variants of COVID-19, a global pandemic, are appearing one after another at present. The infectious disease is not likely to end in a short period, it may stay. In this regard, the global countries are trying to take preventive measures and conduct treatment with their own traditional medicine. Myanmar should follow their example. I’d like to praise officials and all ethnic national people for their efforts to eliminate the disease in short period of time although the country suffered from the severe infection of the pandemic. Therefore, the attempts are made related to the traditional medicines internationally as well as in Myanmar for prevention and treatment against COVID-19.
To produce traditional medicines that can prevent and treat the COVID -19 and seasonal flus, the research Vi-tha-ma fever medicine which was mentioned in the treatise of traditional medicine of Ma-dha-wani-dan and the main content is bitter traditional medicine, Say-Khar-Gyi. Firstly, the quality tests were done. The tests were followed by immediate and short-term toxicological tests ensuring its safety and efficacy in human subjects.
And the clinical trials are done in healthy voluntary human subjects followed by clinical trials on COVID -19 patients with normal signs and symptoms.
These successful clinical trials outputs will be followed by production of this traditional medicine soon. In addition, the standard operating procedures and guidelines for the preventionand treatment of COVID- 19 are being established for traditional medicine practitioners.
Moreover, guidelines were adopted for prevention treatment of those practitioners to fight against COVID -19. I’d like to urge all to make strive for doing effective treatment over ethnic national brethren with the use of local traditional medicines.
Esteemed officials and traditional medicine practitioners, Those are the historical records of Myanmar traditional medicine practitioners took care of the health of the people with the use of traditional medicines in successive eras. Therefore, developing the standards of Myanmar traditional medicinal products in accordance with the international standards and that will enable effective Myanmar traditional medicinal products to penetrate internationally, and all Myanmar traditional medicine practitioners have to work together in unity to carry out scientific research on Myanmar traditional medicine.
Subtle and profound Myanmar traditional medicine, traditional medicine treatises and remedies need to be organized systemically.
Therefore, I would also like to further encourage that collective effort among Myanmar Traditional practitioners is needed to develop our Traditional Medicine as a national heritage medicine. In addition, it is necessary to preserve the traditional heritage of our traditional medicine as a national culture.
At this time, the state is taking special measures to promote the development of traditional medicine in Myanmar, and Myanmar Traditional Medicine Council has been established.
One of the many responsibilities of the council, I would like to emphasize the maintenance and discipline of traditional medicine ethics for traditional medicine professionals.
The Myanmar Traditional Medicine Physicians’ Conference and Traditional Medicine Symposium like this plays an important role in all round development of Myanmar Traditional Medicine. In this conference and symposium, the Ministry of Health, Department of Traditional Medicine, University of Traditional Medicine, professionals and representatives from related ministries, Myanmar Traditional Medicine Council, Myanmar Traditional Medicine Association, and representatives of traditional medicine physicians from all over Myanmar, Traditional Medicine Advisory Group, Myanmar Traditional Medicine Manufacturers and Medical Equipment Manufacturers Association etc., will have good discussions and consultations leading to fruitful outcomes of the conference and symposium.
Therefore, in this 21st Myanmar Traditional Medicine Conference and the Myanmar Traditional Medicine Symposium, delegates will be engaged in friendly, open discussions and consultations in unity, submitting proposals to give more public health services through traditional medicine and I send this message in honour of the 21st Myanmar Traditional Medicine Practitioners Conference and Symposium.
