Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by his entourage, Rakhine State Chief Minister U Htein Lin, the Western Command commander and officials, inspected the upgrading of airports in the state this morning.

At the lounge of Sittwe Airport, the Senior General heard a report by Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for Transport and Communications Admiral Tin Aung San and officials on background history of and data about the Sittwe, Kyaukpyu and Thandwe airports, landing of airplanes, installments of aviation equipment and communication devices and security equipment, extension of runways and airports, upgradation plans and implementation of the tasks instructed by the Senior General on his previous visits to airports.

The Senior General stressed the need to consider systematic calculations and meet set standards in upgrading the airports, and take systematic measures in building aprons. He also called for consideration of other things such as improved trade due to the Kyaukpyu deep-sea port and industrial port and increased arrivals of foreign tourists and cargo planes in extending the runways.

The Senior General said as Sittwe Airport is located in the state’s capital and where A-320 and B-737 airplanes will land, the extension of the runway and airport should be in order of priority. Likewise, being attractive to local and foreign visitors, Thandwe Airport needs to be upgraded so that jet airliners can land. As the neighbouring countries improve their domestic airlines, Myanmar also need to try to upgrade its domestic aviation industry in order to facilitate domestic travel, he added.

Then, the Senior General inspected the feasibility of Sittwe Airport upgrading and left necessary instructions.

Later, the Senior General and party went round in Sittwe Station in a motorcade.
