Chairman of National Disaster Management Committee Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Commander- in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win, currently in Sittwe of Rakhine State, accompanied by his wife Daw Than Than Nwe, Union ministers, the state chief minister, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander- in-Chief, the commander of Western Command and officials this morning inspected the damage in Cyclone Mocha-hit Kyauktaw and Rathedaung, met the residents, departmental staff, Tatmadaw members and their families separately.

First, the Vice-Senior General and party viewed the losses and damage, relief works and rehabilitation processes in stormhit Kyauktaw and Rathedaung by car.

During the meetings with locals and departmental staff at relevant halls separately, the Vice-Senior General said he came to the disaster-affected areas to check the rehabilitation activities in person according to the directive of the Prime Minister. It is such as glad case as the residents conducted rehabilitation processes for their township, ward and village with a strong sense of self-reliance. The people and department concerned also should participate in the rehabilitation processes of recuse teams.

The universities and basic education schools will be opened on 1 June and so it should conduct repairing works on the destroyed schools for the students to be able to study safely and peacefully. In doing so, it should prioritize the high schools that accommodate the largest numbers of students and it should repair the township hospital (50-bed) as quickly as possible.

It needs to collect the data to launch rehabilitation processes quickly. The departments concerned should collect the correct data in respective townships to distribute the relief items systematically. The SAC released the announcements declaring disaster-hit regions according to Section 11 of the Natural Disaster Management Law. Moreover, the senior military officers were assigned duties in these areas to manage the rehabilitation processes. The people of respective townships should work together to be better than the original situation.

Then, township departmental officials and town elders reported on the damage and losses of houses, buildings, schools, hospitals and departmental buildings in the storm and other requirements. The Vice-Senior General attended to the needs and provided basic foodstuffs such as rice, cooking oil, beans and fish paste to the victims of Mocha and departmental staff.

The Vice-Senior General and party also provided cash assistance to the members of the Bago Region Fire Brigade who served recuse and relief measures in Rathedaung.

Moreover, the Vice-Senior General and party went to Kyauktaw and Rathedaung stations and comforted the officers, other ranks and families who faced the impacts of natural disasters. After coordinating their reports, the Vice-Senior General provided foodstuffs and cordially greeted them.
