SAC Chairman Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing inspects progress in implementation of Bago River Bridge (Thanlyin Bridge-3) project and Myanmar-Korea friendship (Dala) bridge project in Yangon Region

    Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by his entourage, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, the commander of Yangon Command and officials, this morning,inspected progress in implementation of Bago River Bridge (Thanlyin Bridge-3) project and Myanmar-Korea friendship (Dala) bridge project in Yangon Region.

First, the Senior General and party arrived at Bago River Bridge (Thanlyin Bridge-3) project site to link Thakayta and Thanlyin townships, Union Minister for Construction U Myo Thant reported to the Senior General on emergence of the project, project data, implementation of the project in phases, potential of the project, availability of bridge construction techniques and experiences, quality control measures and environmental conservation, worksite safety and environmental conservation.

After hearing the reports, the Senior General said the need to systematically carry out the construction tasks to meet the standards with endurance of iron and steel materials against salty water. The Senior General called for completion for necessary sections of the projects and timely completion of the project.

The Senior General inspected progress of the project and gave necessary guidance over the reports of officials.

Upon completion, the Bago River Bridge (Thanlyin Bridge-3) project can ease traffic congestion from Thanlyin Bridge-1. Thilawa Special Economic Zone will help improve socioeconomic life of the people from Thanlyin, Kyauktan, Khayan and Thongwa regions of Yangon Region due to booming businesses of local and foreign businesspersons. It will help develop Thilawa SEZ and Thanlyin region and use the East West economic corridor to link the road to Hpaan and Myawady.

So, it will benefit Mon and Kayin states for their development as well as improve communication with regional countries.

As the bridge is under construction with the modern technologies, Myanmar engineers will have modern technologies and experiences and help turn out skilled labours. Moreover, it will create job opportunities for the locals.

On arrival at the meeting hall of Myanmar Korea friendship (Dala) bridge project, the Senior General heard reports by Union Minister for Construction U Myo Thant on emergence of the bridge project, benefits on completion of the project, project data, implementation of the guidance of the Senior General on his inspection tour in June 2022, completion of piers of the bridge, completion of the project phases, quality control measures at the bridge, worksite safety and environmental conservation In his guidance, the Senior General noted that all construction materials must be ready for the project. Linking the bridge parts must be systematic. As the project approach road is close to residential houses, an emphasis must be placed on systematic calculation against dangers and earthquakes. The project must be done quickly on schedules.

As the long time project will cause traffic congestion, efforts must be made for timely completion of the project.

The Senior General presented cash awards for engineers from both projects through officials who respectfully returned the gifts to the Senior General.

The Senior General and party inspected undertakings on the main bridge pylon 2 on Yangon bank and gave guidance to officials.

The project was initiated by the meeting of President U Thein Sein on his goodwill visit to Korea in 2012 to implement a Myanmar-Korea friendship bridge in Myanmar. The bridge was implemented in 2013 and construction tasks started in 2015. It will be a cablestayed bridge. Upon completion of the bridge, people from Yangon will have easy access to Dala, Twantay, Kawhmu and Kungyangon townships and to Ayeyawady Region via Dedaye Bridge, lessening traffic congestion in Yangon to some extent. As such, the bridge will be a landmark of Yangon due to development of social, economic, education, health and transport sectors.
