Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing inspects measures for raising sports standard in Ayeyawady Region, water supply tasks in Pathein

Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing inspected measures for raising the sports standard in Ayeyawady Region and water supply tasks in Pathein this afternoon. He was accompanied by SAC Joint Secretary Lt-Gen Ye Win Oo, union ministers, the Chief of General Staff (Army,Navy and Air), senior military officers, Chief Minister of Ayeyawady Region U Tin Maung Win, the South-West Command commander and officials.

First, the Senior General and party arrived at Kothein Stadium of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs in Pathein. At the briefing hall, the Senior General heard a report by U Tun Myint Oo, director general of the Sports and Physical Education Department, on ongoing measures for the sports sector development, the construction and upgrading of sports fields,stadiums and swimming pools in Ayeyawady Region and plans to establish the Institute of Sports and Physical Education(Pathein).

In his guidance, the Senior General said improving the sports standard has been included as one of the points included in the continued national objectives of the State, so attention has been paid to sports. Raising the sports standard means bringing dignity and honour to the State. And it will arouse the patriotic and nationalistic spirits. Sports must be emphasized as it is a national cause. In upgrading the sport stadiums, the number of spectators needs to be considered. In view of the future and sustainability, they need to be of mordent standard. It is also necessary to include car parks and emergency exits. The land approved for an institute of sports and physical education in Pathein should be systematically used. The construction of buildings needs to be systematically arranged so that there will not be unnecessary empty spaces. Sports facilities should meet the set standards so that the sport standard can improve. Coaches also need to try to have full skills and qualifications, the Senior General said.

Next, the Senior General and party went round in Kothein Stadium and left the necessary instructions.

Then, the Senior General and party inspected Kyauk Taing sports field and left necessary instructions.

After that, the Senior General and party inspected the construction of a high standard swimming pool in Pathein. The director general of the Sports and Physical Education Department reported on construction progress. The Senior General stressed the need to consider the number of spectators in building a stand for the swimming pool and withstand bad weather conditions, especially strong winds, and left necessary instructions.

Afterwards, the Senior General and party proceeded to the site where water supply tasks are being carried out for the town of Pathein. Director U Phone Lwin of the Region Development Affairs Committee reported on town water supply tasks, installation of water meters, ongoing water supply tasks, water requirements in summer, water quality control records, establishment of water purifiers and distribution of purified water to the public.

The Senior General spoke of the need to educated the people about using water efficiently.

He said rainwater can be stored and used as the town has a large rainfall. Plants need to be grown and maintained as many as possible along the river banks to reduce silt in the river where the water purifier is closely located.

Then, the Senior General and party inspected the water purification process at the plant and left the necessary instructions.

The town water supply project can purify 4.5 million gallons of water from the Ngawun River a day. Water is now distributed to the town through pipelines at cheap prices.
