Narcotic drugs bound for Malaysia seized at 157 nautical miles south-west of Kawthoung

The government is launching counternarcotic campaigns with accelerated momentum as a national task to effectively curb the illegal drugs trade that is harmful to the entire mankind including new generation youths. It is increasing its drive to search and expose drugs and arrest the suspects along the possible drug routes and conducting joint anti-drug operations with neighbouring countries. Hence, transnational drug gangs are turning to the maritime routes that have advantages.
Information about the transport of illicit drugs to Malaysia on 30 October 2023 by transnational gangs through the sea route was received in advance. Hence, the Tatmadaw (Navy) stopped and searched a mechanized boat sailing towards Malaysia at a place 157 nautical miles south-west of Kawthoung and arrested the suspects, Min Min Soe, Aung Min Thu, Thura Oo (1), Myint Tun,Yan Paing Soe, Win Hlaing Oo and Thura Oo (2) together with 2600 kilos of ICE at a street price of Ks 104 billion in packages bearing the letters “GUANYINWANG” in their possession.
During the investigation, the suspects told the Navy personnel that Nyi Nyi, who was still at large, made connections with Malaysian drug gangs and was sending illicit drugs to them by sea; and that when the boat arrived at the Malaysian waters, they would transfer the drugs to the Malaysia drugs gang Nyi Nyi would connect with them.
Severe legal action will be taken against the suspects, and ongoing efforts are underway to capture all the persons, including fugitive Nyi Nyi, who are involved in the case. According to the authorities, information about the illicit drug trade can be sent to the respective bodies through clandestine means and those who provide information and take part in arresting the culprits will be awarded with handsome awards secretly.
