Vice Chairman of State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win addresses 2nd meeting of 2024 5th National Sports Festival Organizing Steering Committee

The 2024 Fifth National Sports Festival Organizing Steering Committee held its second meeting at Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs here this afternoon, addressed by Patron of the steering committee Vice Chairman of State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win.

Also present were union ministers, who are steering committee members, the union auditor-general, the Nay Pyi Taw Council chair, deputy ministers, heads of department and officials.

The Vice-Senior General said according to dictionaries of global countries, the meaning of sports involves all kinds of physical activities in various types of competition. Although the goal of sports is health and fitness of the entire country, it comprises competitions from individual events to mass activities and from rural level meets to global level Olympics. Sports victory enhances the prestige of nation and people. So, sports activities are called unarmed battles.

SAC is providing multiple supports for sports level improvement. The State Administration Council Chairman Prime Minister has given guidance to support sports as sports events strengthen patriotism, national spirit and national characteristics and improve health and fitness of the entire country. The 5th National Sports Festival will be held in accord with the Head of State’s guidance and five aims, and all participants are urged to collectively strive for the success and grandeur of the festival.

SAC successfully organized national level events as the Diamond Jubilee Union Day that portrayed national unity and spirit, and Diamond Jubilee Independence Day that depicted patriotism and national affairs. As regards the religious sector, SAC erected the international renowned glorious, auspicious and fine featured Maravijaya Buddha Image. The Head of State has given guidance to impressively organize the 5th festival, pertaining to entire country, as the previous national events with the aim of enabling healthy and fit education youth members to actively take part in developing the future nation. Hence, members of the steering committee, work committee and sub-committees and officials must exert collective efforts sector wise.

Necessary directives had already been given to the suggestions and discussions presented at the first steering committee meeting. At this meeting, topics on the cost of the festival, opening and closing ceremonies, festival plan, types of sports events and choosing of a commemorative figure must be discussed. Presentation of MASCOT together with medals as in the international sports meets has been agreed in principle, so participants must also discussed the said matter.

The upcoming National Sports Festival aims to foster a new generation of athletes who will bring honor to the country. Therefore, participating athletes are encouraged to thoroughly study and adhere to the established rules, age limits, and sports systems. When competing, they should strive to perform with full sportsmanship to achieve success. Additionally, officials from relevant ministries and state or regional representative teams must provid systematic training in line with sports regulations. Judges and juries overseeing similar competitions should make fair and impartial decisions without bias. Due to the intense nature of these sports competitions, if any disputes arise, arbitration committees are required to systematically oversee and resolve these issues.

To successfully host the grand national sports festival with significant achievements and according to the objectives, the leading committee, working committee, relevant sub-committees, ministries, states, and regions are urged to prioritize and adhere to their respective responsibilities.

Additionally, during the period of hosting the grand national sports festival, it is of utmost importance to ensure there are no security breaches. Therefore, everyone needs to act with security awareness, vigilance, and priority. During the competition period, it is necessary for the responsible parties from the sub-committees to meticulously manage the arrangements for the athletes’ accommodation, ensuring they can compete in a peaceful and comfortable environment. Matters such as living conditions, meals, security, health, and transportation must be carefully planned and executed.

To successfully host the upcoming National Sports Festival, Union ministries, state and regional governments, the Myanmar Sports Federations, retired prominent Myanmar athletes, NGOs, media professionals, and the general public are all encouraged to collaborate with a sense of national pride, each contributing according to their respective roles. The working committee and sub-committees responsible for organizing the event should strive to fulfill their duties effectively and include contingency plans to address any unforeseen issues that may arise.

After that, Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the 5th National Sports Festival Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs U Min Thein Zan explained the current status of the implementation of previous meeting decisions, the classification and scheduling of competitions, and the program for awarding prizes.

Following this, the Union Ministers, the Union Auditor General, the Chairman of the Nay Pyi Taw Council, and Deputy Ministers, who are members of the committee, presented their plans to hold the opening and closing ceremonies of the 5th National Sports Festival in a grand and state-level manner that aligns with contemporary times. They also discussed plans to ensure that the National Sports Festival is conducted in a lively and vibrant manner, providing detailed explanations relevant to their respective sectors.

The deputy ministers who are chairmen of the sub-committees of the transportation, security, finance and award presenting, news publication and record, health, invitation and reception, ceremonial planning, auditing, competition and technique, accommodation and reception and arbitrary reported on their ongoing and future tasks.

Later, the Vice-Senior General attended to the needs in response to the reports and ended the meeting with a concluding remark.
