Vice Chairman of State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win addresses coordination meeting of Steering Committee to hold Myanmar National Education Conference (2024)

The Steering Committee to hold Myanmar National Edu[1]cation Conference (2024) held a coordination meeting at the Ministry of Education here this afternoon, addressed by Chairman of the steering committee Vice Chairman of State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win.
Present were union ministers, the Nay Pyi Taw Council chair, deputy ministers, Nay Pyi Taw Council member, permanent secretaries, directors general and officials.
In his speech, the Vice-Senior General said SAC of Republic of Union of Myanmar is implementing the nine adopted objectives, and to successfully implement the social objectives: To implement a multi-education system that addresses all segments of society, nurturing intellectual and intelligent capacities among the entire population and producing a significant pool of skilled technicians crucial for the manufacturing sector; and To nurture the youth sector, bringing out versatile, physically strong, knowledgeable, morally upright, socially adept and eco[1]nomically empowered young individuals, poised to lead the nation's development efforts, it had successfully organized the first Myanmar National Education Conference (2023) in accord with the theme: Improving future education.
The goals of this year’s conference are: emergence of youths who love their country, production of qualified intellectuals, development of various branches of vocational education that supports production, continuous improvementof teachers’ qualifications, development of research and innovation, and further strengthening of a quality-guaranteed education system.
This year’s conference will be held for three days from 25 to 27 June at MICC-II with the theme: Greater promotion of education for human resources development. In order to organize the conference in accord with the theme, the steering committee was formed with union ministers of 13 ministries and Nay Pyi Taw Council, deputy ministers and officials, and a work committee and 11 subcommittees were also set up. The work committee and subcommittees had already held meetings. As the country’s education sector is being implemented by MoE and related ministries area wise, the relat[1]ed ministries must realize their relations with the conference. The meeting invited collective suggestions and discussions.
This year’s conference will review the work programs initiated by the first conference, and parallel sessions on the quality assurance sector in addition to basic education, higher education, vocational education, teaching knowledge, and research and innovation sectors. There will be six sectors and six papers will be presented for each section. Paper-wise and discussion-wise future work programs will be realized after a review of the results of the discussions. Discussions must be held in all seriousness till methods to ensure success and overcome challenges and future programs come out. During the previous conference 42 papers were read for five sectors, and this year 36 papers will be presented for six sectors. But the numbers do not matter, only the results matter. There are successes as well as ongoing tasks in implementing the review recommendations of the previous conference. Likewise, at this year’s conference the results of discussion must be reviewed and collective discussions must be concentrated on achieving good education results and fine education foundations for future generations.
Ministry-wise recommendations on the work programs realized by the previous conference must be implemented till success is achieved. In order to maintain the success for its sustainability, sector-wise shortterm and long-term plans must the materialized. Only then, will the conference be supportive of finding better answers, accurate statistics and fine results for the posterity.
The State Administration Council is making concerted efforts to enhance the nation's education standards, which is well known to everyone. These efforts include ensuring that all school-age children attend school and complete the KG+9 program, expanding basic education and vocational high schools in industrial, agricultural, and livestock sectors, opening the Naypyitaw State Academy, providing administrative and financial support, conducting capacity-building training, increasing literacy rates, and promoting reading habits. These are significant examples of the government's dedication. It is not only the government's efforts but also the collective understanding and support of the people towards the value of education that will achieve the nation's educational goals.
The education of the youth, who will bear the responsibility of carrying the nation forward, must be of the highest quality. To achieve this goal, the current education conference is being held. It is crucial for all stakeholders to work together towards the success of this national-level conference.
The Prime Minister has directed that the government prioritize education, healthcare, and other social sectors, aiming to surpass the current standards and achieve excellence. In line with this directive, efforts are being made to provide the necessary resources to ensure success in each relevant sector. Similarly, the respective ministries are urged to effectively implement their assigned responsibilities to achieve success.
The Ministry of Education has convened four preliminary meetings of the steering committee in preparation for the successful convening of the Education Conference (2024). During these meetings, tasks were distributed among the relevant ministries, including the selection of paper topics, the presentation of papers by ministries, and the preparation of exhibitions. The organizers encourage the composition of a theme song for the Edu[1]cation Conference (2024) that effectively captures the essence of the conference’s objectives. The outcomes of the Education Conference (2024) should contribute to the advancement of Myanmar's education system. All ministries are urged to work together diligently and fulfill their respective roles and responsibilities to ensure the success of the 2024 Myanmar National Education Conference. Participants are encouraged to actively engage in discussions and contribute to the successful convening of the congress.
Steering Committee Secretary Union Minister for Education Dr Nyunt Pe and Work Committee Secretary 1 Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education Dr Soe Win clarified the objectives of the conference (2024), the formation of committees and their responsibilities and preparations for the successful holding the conference.
After that, officials from the Security Subcommittee, the Document Acceptance and Verification Subcommittee, the Exhibits Arrangement Subcommittee, the Invitation and Reception Subcommittee, the Ceremony Preparation Subcommittee, the Hospitality and Dinner Organization Subcommittee, the News and Information Subcommittee, the Documentation and Subcommittee, the Entertainment Subcommittee, the Health Subcommittee, and the Finance Subcommittee explained their completed tasks and the necessary coordination efforts required to successfully hold the Myanmar National Education Conference (2024).
