Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing inspects planetarium in Yangon, which is being upgraded to a space gallery, Myanmar-Korea Friendship (Dala) Bridge Project

    This afternoon, along with Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, members of the entourage, including the Yangon Region chief minister, the Yangon Command commander, and officials, inspected the planetarium, which is being upgraded into a space gallery located in People's Square and Park, Dagon Township, Yangon Region, as well as the Myanmar-Korea Friendship (Dala) Bridge Project.

First, Yangon Mayor U Bo Htay explained the history of the planetarium, information about the planetarium, and the programs to upgrade the planetarium to a space gallery. The Senior General provided guidance on necessary matters.

After that, the Senior General and party observed the displays in each section, including the display of studying the constellations inside the planetarium.

The planetarium was opened in 1987 to commemorate Japan-Myanmar friendship and to increase knowledge of astronomical science for students and citizens, serving both educational and recreational purposes.

It is now known that the planetarium will be upgraded and reopened as a space gallery.

Next, the Senior General inspected maintenance functions in People's Square and Park and provided guidance on necessary matters based on the presentations from responsible officials.

Then, the Senior General and party arrived at the Myanmar-Korea Friendship (Dala) Bridge Project, which is being constructed to connect Yangon and Dala. In the meeting hall, U Myo Thant, Union Minister for Construction, explained the reasons for the construction of the bridge, information about the bridge, the benefits of the project, and the implementation of the guidance provided by the Senior General during his inspection in May 2023. He also presented the completion of the Dala side approach structure, the main bridge, the mid-water piers, which is the main part of the bridge, the completion of the Yangon side approach structure, completion of work according to project work sections, quality maintenance works in carrying out project activities, workplace safety measures, and environmental maintenance works that are being carried out.

In response, the Senior General said systematic efforts should be made for the phaseby- phase completion of the bridge in time and for its durability as the facility will benefit the people. Traffic safety must be ensured. The connection of parts of the bridge must be perfect, clearance area must be systematically marked and safety of the mid piers must be taken into account.

The Senior General presented baskets of fruit for engineers of the project through officials.

The Senior General and party inspected the functions of the bridge project and looked into the requirements.

During the goodwill visit of President U Thein Sein to South Korea in 2012, discussions were held to implement a bridge project and it was launched in 2103. Construction work began in 2015. The Myanmar-Korea friendship bridge (Dala) is a Cable – Stayed Bridge and when completed coastal areas and the entire Ayeyawady Region will be accessible easily from Yangon through Dala, Twantay, Kawhmu, Kungyangon townships and Dedaye bridge. Moreover, it will help alleviate the current traffic congestion of Yangon to a certain degree.

The bridge will also become a landmark of Yangon and facilitate the progress of multiple sectors including social, economic, health and education sectors.
