Persons in police uniform who expressed views in Loikaw not permanent MPF members, but just members of local force assigned under job generation programme

Nay Pyi Taw  February  10

About 20 persons in full police uniform in two cars arrived at a place near the downtown traffic lights in Minsu Ward, Loikaw, Kayah State, where disturbances were taking place, at about 10 am today. They posed for documentary photos in the position of giving talks and expressing views, and left the place by cars at about 10.30 am.

In fact, they are not the per-manent members of the Myanmar Police Force. They were assigned duties only as a local force under a job generation programme.

MPF members are serving security duties round the clock to prevent the occurrence of distur-bances in accordance with the law. The intention of those persons was just to deceive the people as if security personnel were also taking part in the demonstrations and disturbances. Further tasks are being carried out to conduct necessary investigation into the case.
